The Power of a Name
©
Kabalarian Writings

The value of a name has long been immortalized in prose, poetry, the Bible, and religious ceremony.  Everyone recognizes himself according to his individual name.  The importance and the influence of a person's name has been the subject of controversy for years with critics often quoting, "A rose by any other name would smell as sweet," as if roses were people with individual qualities of intelligence. The question is, how does a name influence a person's character?

Let us consider what a name is.  It is the grouping of several symbols which, when used, represent the identification of a person or an object.

The one thing that separates humankind from the animal kingdom is mind, which has the ability to reason on a conscious level.  To think consciously, we must use language.  This point is not generally appreciated but it is vitally important.  It is impossible to think without language.  What allows language to serve in this manner?  It is the fact that language is symbolized in some definite way, in a definite mathematical sequence, i.e., in the English alphabet, "A" is always in the first position, "B", in the second position, and so on.  Any alphabet is an alphabet because set symbols are recognized by their sound in a definite order--change the order and confusion results.

There is more than just sound, shape, and position to the symbols of language.  What is it that language expresses?  Is it not conscious intelligence?  Is not intelligence a mental power?  Do we not learn through education, using language, to develop intelligence, which is recognized as mental growth and the individuality of the personal mind.

The link between conscious intelligence, human mind, language, and the mathematical order of the symbols of language is the key to measuring human mind and solving the major problem of mental discord and imbalance.

A simple analogy is the piano.  Every string when struck emits specific sound vibrations.  Each string is different according to a mathematical law which gives the gradations in tones.  Each note is a step in the scale, and using these notes a musician can blend the sounds into harmony or create a discord.

Similarly, names can blend conscious forces to create mental harmony or mental discord.  Music is recognized as following a mathematical relationship in sound energies.  The individual notes, although important, are not the music.  Music is a sound energy that is expressed when activated by the keys.  If the keys are not used, there is no music.  A melody can be played on numerous instruments that express the same musical intelligence via a different medium.  In the same way intelligence is universal and can be expressed via the medium of many different languages.  The thought that, "The sky is blue," can be conveyed in as many languages as exist.  Yet the thought remains abstract until expressed through language.

Therefore, conscious intelligence is a universal power that is limited according to the medium of expression.  Languages with more extensive alphabets allow a greater diversity in the shades of meaning to be conveyed.  Languages with alphabets having only a few symbols lack the capacity to express conscious intelligence as freely and easily as languages with many more symbols.  Compare this with one piano with three octaves of notes expressing a range of music to another piano of ten or more octaves of notes.  What a difference!

In considering the influence of a name, what is important is the power of intelligence that expresses through the symbols comprising the names.  Similar to the gradations in sound energies in the scale of music, there is a scale in conscious power known as qualities of intelligence that express as an invisible energy known as mental power.

There are nine gradations in the scale of conscious expression:  concisely they are:  individuality, diplomacy, artistic expression, technical detail, analytical research, responsibility, philosophical depth of thought, organization, and universal love and understanding.

When the Principle is understood, a name can be changed to alter the forces of intelligence expressing through the person to conform to a harmonious pattern and to assist changing the person's nature to one of greater balance and happiness.  What's in a name?--everything.  What's in your name?--you.

True Love
© Tonnae Hennigan

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. A day may be sunny and warm, the flowers blooming, the birds singing, life growing and pulsating; and yet, although they may be vaguely aware of it, millions of people do not truly experience the beauty of the day, and are not warmed and lifted by it. Each is so involved in his own little world of worries, concerns, and plans that the mind does not reach out to discover what life is really all about.

We all know, from experience, that a sunny disposition really creates a sunny day, and all the beautiful things in our day-to-day lives become very evident when we are happy and generous in our attitude. It demonstrates the creative power of our own minds and proves the fundamental law in life of action and reaction.

The universal power within every person represents his own special link to beauty, love, and happiness. No one is denied the opportunity; each individual has the same chance, is given a potential to unfold, a link to the allness and infinity of life.

What we must come to realize is that all in life that we desire--material success, loyal friends, depth of mind, a purpose for living, and true love (in whatever order)--all these things are rewards for our efforts put forth and cannot be found by racing around from experience to experience, by concentrating on selfish desires and thinking only about "What I want," or "Where I am going."  It is like that person who is so wrapped up in himself that he fails to see the beauty of the day. We become so involved in self and its never-ending demands that the true beauties of life pass us by.

Everyone wants to be loved, to feel needed and cared for. So often this desire leads to hasty decisions in the search for security and love. Such a beautiful quality as love must first be created within the individual's mind; it must become a part of one's day-to-day life through generous thoughts of others, through kind and considerate actions, and through constructive, clean living. The main thing is not "Who loves me?" but "How can I give my love to life?" As each person learns how to give, not necessarily to people only, but in service to life, he or she will find that love is a constant companion, but (surprise, surprise!) it is not tall, dark,  handsome, or pretty. Personal friendships and marriage are only expressions of the power of love that a person has generated within his life. Each individual must find his or her own true love through learning how to give and express the highest, most intelligent part of his being.

The most beautiful things in life are still out there waiting to be discovered, not through experiencing, but through thinking, analyzing, and discovering. Most of us are living in a cloudy day in the sense that there is so much more beauty, depth, and love in life than we are even remotely aware of, at present. Mind is our gateway. Through constructive thoughts and actions, and through a sincere and humble attitude we will learn to discover all of the true beauties in life, to bend down and smell the roses in the garden, and bask in the sunshine of truth.

Name Analysis

ROGER, OLIVER, LAWRENCE, FAIRBANKS, O'BRIEN, MADELINE, MARCIA, BEATRICE, ALMA, SOPHIE, OLIVE, ANITA, VALERIE, RODNEY, TANIA

These names contribute sensitive, idealistic qualities to these people.  They have a deep desire to help others, to be of service, and to add their part to peace and harmony in the world.  They make friends easily because of their kind, amiable, and diplomatic qualities. Being intuitive and quick-minded, they sense the feelings of others and give them good advice. They could be drawn into social work such as in helping children. One can always appeal to them and receive a sympathetic hearing.  They must learn to retain confidences because they have a tendency to want to share what they know.

A flair for the dramatic, they are often interested in acting, dancing, and in artistic and musical undertakings.  They are often emotional, high-strung, and temperamental.  The encouragement and strength of others helps to build their confidence, which wanes at times making it difficult to make decisions.  They like to bounce ideas off others. They love deeply and can be easily and severely hurt by misunderstandings.  They have a temper but as soon as they express unkindly they regret their comments and want to make amends.  They do not hold grudges unless they have other qualities that contribute to an inability to forgive.  Sometimes they love too deeply and suffer losses in the affections because of their possessiveness.  They live for love and affection and for the security and companionship it offers.

A tendency to daydream could spoil their ability to concentrate and the initiative to get down to practical work.  Children with these names need encouragement and help to get through their studies, especially in the technical subjects.  They must be taught to handle issues and not just tell others what they want to hear rather than the truth of the situation.  They will do anything to avoid confrontations and to keep the peace!  As handling peer pressure is challenging for them, they could be drawn into questionable situations. It is difficult to say "no" and mean it.  Being impressionable, they are affected greatly by their environment and associations.  If they are not handled properly, they become indifferent to the advice of others.

These people cannot take pressure for too long without reactions to their nervous systems leading to nervous breakdowns.  They need plenty of rest and relaxation as their energies are easily exhausted.  Tensions bring out their temperamental qualities.

A change of name would strengthen their confidence and balance the over-sensitivity of their nervous systems.

Questions?

Does a child have a mind at birth?

A child at birth has no mind; the mind is created when the child is named and when specific conscious energies, coordinated and given expression by the symbols in the name, stimulate the brain cells to respond accordingly--and thus a mental pattern develops.  This pattern is recognized as the personality and reflects the qualities of intelligence expressed by the name.

Children identify themselves with their names.  Thus we are our names, and our names are who we are.  One cannot brush the point aside with, "A name is not important."  Answer this:  Who are you?  How can you identify yourself as a mental power without using your name?  If you had no name, who would you be?  Isn't your name important to you?  Intelligence, as a universal power or invisible energy, is expressed consciously only through language. Our names give us our individual intelligent expression.

The body is controlled by the mind and, when the mind expresses discordant characteristics, the body reflects them as illness.  Medical science admits mental attitude strongly affects the health of the body; for instance, hypertension can cause ulcers, headaches, etc.  The questions are:  What causes the hypertension in the first place?  Why does it affect different people in different ways?  A study of the Kabalarian Philosophy will reveal the answers.

To understand the spiritual law governing conscious expression is to appreciate the power of intelligence expressing through a name.

Time is the period of existence in which we live from the cradle to the grave. We dissect it into seconds, minutes, hours, weeks, months, years, and ages.  Thus we are able to hear our earthly existence ticked away by our watches, and every tick is a thing of the past that can never be retrieved or redeemed.

Each person born into time is governed by it from the first breath of life until death.  Within the period of time called life, the changing minutes, hours, days, months, and years bring changing conditions, thoughts, opportunities, successes, and failures.  Although the world at large does not as yet fully realize it, these fluctuating circumstances of life are not as haphazard as they appear to be.  There is a definite, intelligent pattern to life, and a basic, logical, consistent reason for everything. That pattern is embodied within mathematics and the Cyclic Law.

Quote of the Month

Learn to think fearlessly; there is no subject too spiritual, no subject that cannot stand the analysis of mind; spirit depends upon the channel, mind, for reality. What is more real than logic?
